Larry Whitney has run the all-volunteer La Honda Fire Brigade responding to about 300 calls a year. The La Honda Fire Brigade serves the most rural area in San Mateo County. In addition to being a volunteer firefighter, Larry administers the Brigade office, maintains the equipment, and recruits and trains new volunteer fire fighters. As a reult of his commitment to public safety, Larry has gone above and beyond the call of duty to generate more than $1 million in grant funding to purchase a fire engine for the La Honda Fire Brigade as well as other state-of-the-art fire fighting equipment to ensure the best response and protection for his community and for the volunteer fire fighters.
