During disasters, amateur radio provides vital
communications, when regular communications methods become damaged or
overloaded.
The Sheriff's Office of Emergency Services maintains
an amateur radio repeater for the amateur radio community. The repeater
is located atop Rolfe Peak in San Mateo County. The repeater operates
on 146.865 MHz with a minus offset and a PL tone of 114.8 Hz.
Amateur Radio volunteers
operate a countywide training net on Tuesday evenings at 8:00 pm. All
radio amateurs are encouraged to check in and participate in this weekly
net.
The weekly nets and emergency
communications are run from the Amateur Radio station located in the OES
offices next door to the County's Emergency Operations Center.
