Incident Date and Time: Tuesday, December 4, 2007

Type of Crime/Incident: Missing Persons / Fishermen Vessel
Summary: At approximately 1:45 PM on 12/4/07, the San Mateo County Harbormaster received a report of a vessel which was overdue to return to Pillar Point Harbor on the San Mateo County Coast. Another boater reported having been in radio contact with the missing boat which was last believed to have been in the area within 2-3 miles of the harbor. When that second boater neared the harbor, he lost contact with the missing boat. The Harbormaster launched a search with their boat however was unsuccessful in locating the missing vessel. The Coast Guard was also notified and conducted an air search into Tuesday night and again on Wednesday. At this point, the Coast Guard has suspended their search. Search efforts from the shore are being continued by the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. Weather dependant, additional aircraft will be utilized to search for the missing vessel and occupants.
The vessel is described as a 25' Farrallone Fishing Boat which is white over red. The name of the boat is "Good Guys". The owner and one of the occupants of the boat is Benjamin "Ben" Hannaberg, 58 years old who resides in San Leandro. The second occupant of the vessel is James "Jim" Davis, 57 years old who also resides in San Leandro. Hannaberg and Davis departed Pillar Point Harbor at approximately 9:00 AM on Tuesday to check on some crab traps that had previously been set out. The conditions in the ocean on Tuesday were rough with some reported 20' waves.
Both persons and the boat are still missing as of this release. Family and friends of Mr. Hannaberg and Mr. Davis describe them as experienced sport fishermen.
Today, some items of debris which may be from a boat have been located on the shore in the Half Moon Bay area. These items have NOT been confirmed to have come from the missing boat.
Any person who may locate or see Mr. Hannaberg or Mr. Davis or their vessel is asked to call 9-1-1 if the circumstances are an emergency or San Mateo County Public Safety Communications at 650-363-4911.
