Summary: At approximately 1:45 PM on 12/4/07, the San Mateo County Harbormaster received a report of a vessel which was overdue to return to Pillar Point Harbor on the San Mateo County Coast. Another boater reported having been in radio contact with the missing boat which was last believed to have been in the area within 2-3 miles of the harbor. When that second boater neared the harbor, he lost contact with the missing boat. The Harbormaster launched a search with their boat however was unsuccessful in locating the missing vessel. The Coast Guard was also notified and conducted an air search into Tuesday night and again on Wednesday. At this point, the Coast Guard has suspended their search. The owner and one of the occupants of the boat is Benjamin "Ben" Hannaberg, 58 years old who resides in San Leandro. Hannaberg and Davis departed Pillar Point Harbor at approximately 9:00 AM on Tuesday to check on some crab traps that had previously been set out. The conditions in the ocean on Tuesday were rough with some reported 20' waves.

Both persons and the boat are still missing as of this release. Family and friends of Mr. Hannaberg and Mr. Davis describe them as experienced sport fishermen.
