THURSDAY, DECEMBER 20, 2007

Incident Date and Time: Thursday, December 20, 2007
Location: Corte Madera Middle School, Portola Valley
Type of Crime/Incident: Arrest of two Juvenile suspects for felony vandalism

Summary: Sometime between 10:30 pm Friday November 30, 2007 and 9:30 am Saturday December 1, 2007, suspect(s) spray painted graffiti on the building walls located in the central area of the Corte Madera Middle School. The graffiti depicted graphic caricatures of the human anatomy and scripted references to the sexual preference of specific teachers currently employed by the school. Some of the graffiti included non-specific threats to these teachers. The estimated cost of the clean up is $ 13,000.00.

Today, Thursday December 20, 2007, Sheriff's Deputies assigned to the Portola Valley / Woodside Patrol Bureau and the Sheriff's School Resources Unit, arrested two local juveniles, both of whom are students at Woodside High School for Felony Vandalism with a hate crime enhancement. The arrests and three week investigation came to a successful conclusion in part because of the high degree of cooperation of the school administrators of both Corte Madera Middle School and Woodside High School.

The two arrested suspects cannot be identified due to their ages. Specific information concerning the content of the graffiti will not be disclosed to uphold the integrity of the investigation and because the investigation is still on-going. The suspects have been released to the custody of their parents.

Any person with information about this incident is asked to call Detective Jim Gilletti at (650) 363-4066. Persons who wish to remain anonymous may call the Tip Line listed below.
