The Environmental Health Division has a staff consisting of 55 professional staff and 15 support staff. All recruitment for permanent positions is performed by the County's Human Resources Department. The Job-Line lists all current openings (650) 368-7214.
Hazardous Materials Specialists
Minimum qualifications require a bachelors degree in a related field and knowledge of environmental regulations. Four levels exist within this classification depending on the number of years of experience. Programs administered county-wide include hazardous waste, business plan, underground tanks, storm water and groundwater remediation.
Environmental Health Specialists
Minimum qualifications require a bachelors degree in a environmental science related field and knowledge of environmental sciences. Four levels exist within this classification depending on the number of years of experience. Programs administered county-wide include food, water, pool, housing, septic, wells, land use, cross connection and vector control. The majority of these position require State registration as an Environmental Health Specialist (REHS). Support Staff
Experience and qualifications vary for billing and support staff functions.
Internship Positions
Internship positions are available and vary depending on funding available. REHS field training hours are provided in exchange for work on special projects determined by the Division and are unpaid. Call (650) 372-6200 on current internships available.
