The Arts Commission consists of five members, appointed by the Board of Supervisors, each residing in one of the supervisorial districts. The members of the Commission are : N. Nicole Moayeri (1st District) Dildar Gill Pisani (2nd District) Sherrill Swan (3rd District) Karen Chew (4th District) Susan Salamy (5th District) The Commission was formed to promote and encourage the arts, to serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of Supervisors, to prepare and update the county’s strategic and cultural plan and act as a liaison with arts organizations  to ensure collaboration and coordination related to culture and art activities in San Mateo County. The County Arts Commission is partnering with Peninsula Arts Council for the curation of three galleries in County facilities.   The Caldwell Gallery features the works of local professional artists and is located on the first floor of the Hall of Justice, 400 County Center, Redwood City, CA 94063. Gallery hours are M-F, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. On display: Amy Da-Peng King, November - December (Chinese brush) Ruth Waters, January - February (minimalist acrylics) "The Female Gaze," March - April (Women's History Month) Werner Glinka, May - June (constructed paintings) Joyce Faulknor, July - August (watercolors abstracted) Nicolai Larson, September - October (narrative paintings) Barbara Kossey, November - December (collaged photos)   The Community Gallery is also located at the Hall of Justice, lower level, 400 County Center, Redwood City, CA 94063. This gallery features the work of non-professional artists with the focus on County agencies that use art in the provision of services. Gallery hours are M-F, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. On display: Human Investment Project, through December Notre Dame de Namur Students, January - February "The Female Gaze," March - April Kainos, May - June Art by Foster Children, July - August Commission on Disabilities, September Panorama School quilt project, October - November The Rotunda Gallery features the works of local sculptors from the Peninsula Sculptor's Guild and is located in the lobby of 555 County Center, Redwood City, CA 94063. Gallery hours are M-F, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The sculpture is available from outside the building as well. On display: Robley Browne and B.J. Stevenson, November - May Patricia Keefe and Bob Wilkinson, June - October Arabella Decker and Ruth Waters, May - October 2008  The Curator is Ms. Ruth Waters, (650) 594-1577 The County Arts Commission is also partnering with Artsopolis, an online resource that features art events in San Mateo and allows artists (who have registered for free) to advertise their own events. The Commission develops annually a budget and workplan.
