A pandemic is an epidemic which affects the entire world. Influenza pandemics have occurred regularly throughout human history. Is the threat of pandemic flu real? Yes, it is. Will a pandemic be caused by the current circulating strain (H5N1) of avian influenza? There is no way of knowing.
