Welcome . . . The San Mateo County Probation Department has a criminal justice philosophy that blends two key, co-equal elements. The first element is our law enforcement duties that protect the community and reduce community victimization by offenders. The second element is facilitating treatment to maximize opportunities for juveniles and adults to become pro-social, contributing members of the community.

It is our responsibility to focus on providing evidence based treatment resources that have been proven to reduce crime, delinquency, and recidivism in a cost-effective manner. These resources include substance abuse treatment, mental health treatment, cognitive based programs, and educational/vocational programs. Our Probation Department is committed to providing the best possible services to our Community, our Court, our County, and the many community based organizations with whom we work.

Our end goal is to “make a difference” in the lives of as many probationers in San Mateo County as possible.
